Condition worsened; medically evacuated April 27 via Ascension Island alongside his American partner (see PUSPAR01) — both removed from the ship together as the total was reduced from 149 to 147. Tested positive for hantavirus on May 2 in South Africa — making him the FIRST laboratory-confirmed case in the outbreak (AP, May 7 2026). Currently hospitalized in intensive care in South Africa.
