Case summary
Dutch flight attendant on Airlink flight 4Z 301 (SHN→JNB, April 25). Index case PEDB43 was on this flight but was too ill to take her onward international flight to Europe and was taken off the plane in Johannesburg, where she died. The Airlink attendant is now showing hantavirus symptoms and being tested in an isolation ward at Amsterdam hospital (Dutch Health Ministry via AP, May 7 2026). If confirmed positive, would be the FIRST known person not aboard MV Hondius to be infected — representing Gen 2 transmission (ship passenger → airline crew). 88 people total were on the April 25 SHN→JNB flight. IMPORTANT DISTINCTION (NBC News, May 8 2026): A separate KLM flight attendant who was NOT on flight 4Z 301 tested NEGATIVE for hantavirus — this does NOT apply to PKLM01 (the Airlink attendant). The KLM negative result is a different person on a different flight.
